Anna Karenina

I really do love to read, but at this time in my life it’s really a rare luxury.  Once I get into book, I have no desire to do anything else. Motherhood and work keeps on getting in the way!

The last two weeks we were staying with my brother and his family. My sister-in-law loves to read, and there were so many choices. I have never read the Russian classics, and for some reason it just wasn’t something I felt I needed to do.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy caught my eye, and I’m on the last pages. I’m actually happy that I’m reading it now has a happily married woman. I’m especially interested in the description of birth in that era and in that part of the world.

One of my favorite parts is that from what I understand nobody actually knew when the baby would come. I’m curious to do some research on this, it was in the middle of the 1800s.  What I love most about this is that a due date is an estimate, it could be couple weeks before or a couple weeks after. The actual day really does not mean anything.

I’m excited to finish the book, it is hard to put down. Once I’m done I’ll be able to give my family and my work all of my attention.
