After the Maccabean revolt successfully liberated much of Judea from foreign rule, Antiochus VII sent a letter to the Hasmonean leadership demanding the immediate withdrawal from “illegally occupied” territories in exchange for “peace.” This is what Shimon the Maccabee had to say:
“We have not taken strange lands, nor are we ruling over foreign territory. We have returned to our ancestral inheritance, from which we had been unjustly expelled by our enemies. And now that we have been blessed with the opportunity, we will hold onto our ancestral land.” – 1 Maccabees ch. 15
Proud to be reciting V’al haNissim in our ancestral inheritance, the indigenous homeland of the Jewish people, or as the American administration and Antiochus would have it, “illegally occupied territory.”

It’s absolutely insane that an Obama administration that has a demagogue coming into power after it (and should be doing everything it can to help prepare the government for what’s coming) is spending its last month obsessing over Israel.

What what a wonderful night! Tonight’s menorah was really special. It was a Jewish Unity Menorah. Each branch had pictures of Jews from a different area in the world. The Shamash branch in the center was Israel. The three pictures on the center frames were the three things that unite all Jews wherever they may be. Torat Israel, Eretz Yisroel, and Bnei Yisroel. The Torah , Israel, and the Jewish people.
