Chanukah starts tonight!

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah. We are lighting the first of eight candles for the next eight days. Jewish people all over the world are celebrating the miracle of Chanukah. There was a Menorah in the Jewish temple that had to be lit daily with pure oil. The Greeks did not want the Jewish people to practice their traditions, they wanted them to assimilate and desecrated the temple, and only one can of oil was saved. That one can of oil lasted for eight nights.  We also eat food fried in oil to remember the miracle of the one can of oil.

There were other miracles that I will write about in the following days, and the rest of the time we will be going from party to party, shining light and happiness into the world.  That is the symbol of this beautiful holiday, to be a light, even if there is darkness all around.  Yesterday my blog was titled, Before the light, and a friend suggested I share it today to inspire my Jewish brothers and sisters to shine bright, https://coachyulia.com/2016/12/23/before-the-light/.

Here is the Chanukah story in more detail, http://angels.about.com/od/MiraclesReligiousTexts/f/What-Is-The-Hanukkah-Miracle.htm.

Chag Sameach!
